9 May 2018: The People have spoken

I’m moved to write this.
What a tumultuous 24 hours it was.

Hours of waiting followed by postponements, then more hours of uncertainty and anxiety.  And finally it happened.

Tun Mahathir at 93 led Pakatan Harapan to win the 14GE and was sworn in as PM at 9.57pm!

What is equally astounding is the peoples of malaysia. Many of us felt the injustice over the decades but rather than resorting to violent methods, we demonstrated collective restraint. patiently and gradually we garnered our strengths and build our coalitions over the years.  And finally in one fell swoop we collectively brought about the defining change we want - through the strokes of our pens.

Someone aptly wrote “The singular event of May 9 will powerfully resonate forever in our history as a glorious chapter in a people's tenacity. Malaysians delivered a new lesson in non-violent opposition.”

And gloriously too we now have the May 9 event attained by the unity of our people - to outshine the May 13 incident which began the fragmentation of our society almost to the day fifty years ago.

Tonight I will say a prayer for the nation - in gratitude - for the smooth transition, as well as for the material and spiritual well being of the nation and for the unity of all its peoples.

Salam satu harapan, satu Malaysia, satu impian.
